Data, beautiful data

Poynter is a leader in the journalism industry for a reason.

Great content.

And all that other stuff they do, too: articles, reviews, training and persistently leading good commentary on the industry.

Here’s a few highlights of a post on free data visualization tools available online.

• Take a lengthy, boring piece of text and create a word cloud with Wordle. My final paper for comm law last year was interesting. I wrote about student rights in schools when dealing with content published on social networks.

It’s even better now:

• Pairing maps with stats? Try BatchGeo. Serious potential here.

• Interactivity is fun for readers (I enjoy it, at least) and Dipity creates hands-on timelines. Now the company needs to work on time travel.
